Done correctly, a charcuterie board is an aesthetically pleasing sight. These boards have taken Instagram and Pinterest by storm and it's easy to understand why - they're literally beautiful. The boards usually contain items like cooked or cured meats, cheeses, crackers, fruits and nuts. While you may think you can whip something up like this at home, it's definitely more than just throwing some cheese and crackers on a plate and calling it a day.
Although I love Valentine's Day, I loathe going out to eat because of how busy it is, so my husband and I usually spend the evening cooking at home. With Valentine's Day being on a Friday this year, I knew we'd have some extra time to relax, so I was trying to brainstorm different ideas for what we could do at home other than just the usual dinner.
I recently discovered Charcuterie & Cheese, a Sarasota-based charcuterie board company. After connecting with the owner Shannon, I knew incorporating a cheeseboard into our Valentine's Day plans would be a hit. My idea was that we could have some wine after work, sit on the patio and share a charcuterie board before we started making dinner.
I received a free charcuterie board from Charcuterie & Cheese to try. All opinions are my own.
Shannon is a total cheeseboard aficionado. She originally started creating these unique boards for family and friends, but realized her passion project was quickly turning into something more. When I tried one of her creations, a portable grazing box, I was definitely mind-blown. It was so artfully created, I almost didn't want to eat it. But I'm so glad I did because it was absolutely delicious!
Below I've highlighted what was included in our box:
Heart-shaped champagne cheddar
Sugar-crusted honey goat cheese
Pinot Noir jam drenched brie
Havarti cheese crumbles
Salami "roses"
Red currant jam
Chocolate-candy covered Oreos
Grapes
Strawberries
Sugar gummy bears
Chocolate-sprinkle nonpareils
Dark chocolate covered pretzels
These boxes are the perfect way to treat yourself and your loved one this Valentine's Day when you're looking to spend a low-key evening at home. While I got mine themed especially for Valentine’s Day, these are also great for everyday events, family gatherings, girls' night in, holiday parties or just whenever you feel like treating yourself. If you want a more decorative choice, you also have the option of getting your assortment on a board. Grazing boxes for two start around $34 based on ingredients and special requests.
