I guess I'm just part of the really small group of people that actually enjoys visiting the dentist. Getting my teeth cleaned has always been a therapeutic experience for me. At one of my most recent appointments, I was happily chatting away with my hygienist about my upcoming wedding when she made a comment about how I could really benefit from some teeth whitening.

I never really thought about the shade of my teeth prior to that conversation. I mean sure, I've dabbled with whitening strips and charcoal toothpaste, but really, who hasn't? But after that conversation, I couldn't stop unseeing the shade of my teeth! Were they really that dull and yellow? Why hadn't anyone told me? And then the worst thought of all....okay, I'm giving up coffee until after the wedding.
Clearly, I was having a moment of insanity thinking I could go through a whole year of balancing work and wedding planning without coffee. I also knew that I couldn't tack on another expense like teeth whitening at the dentist. What You'll Receive
For $139, you'll receive 3 base pastes, 3 catalyst pastes, a top and bottom teeth tray to create your custom impressions, 3 teeth whitening gels and 3 desensitizing gels.
How to Make Your Impressions
Detailed instructions are provided that outline the entire process of creating your impressions. You're basically mixing one catalyst paste and one base paste to form a putty that you will spread evenly into your tray to create your upper impression. You'll then gently press the tray into your teeth so that the material flows just over your gum lines and hold it in place for 3 minutes, repeating this same process for the lower impression. Once you're finished, you'll let your impressions sit for 30 minutes and then run them under cool water. After they've hardened, you'll place them back into the envelope that was sent to you and they'll be on their way back to Smile Brilliant!
Whitening Gel Process
When you receive your custom trays back from Smile Brilliant, the real fun begins! Simply take your custom trays out of their carrying case, wash them and let them dry. When you're ready to start the whitening process, brush your teeth with just water and floss. This is key because if you use toothpaste, the fluoride will reduce the whitening effectiveness. You'll then put a ribbon of the whitening gel in the front of both of your trays. Remember, less is more and you should get roughly 3-4 uses out of each syringe. Next, you'll simply dry your teeth, pop your trays in and start your timer!
My Whitening Routine
My typical whitening routine was done at night, since it was right before I went to sleep. This is the easiest time in my opinion to do it because you won't be introducing any new stains to your teeth. I whitened for an hour throughout the entire process and I didn't experience any sensitivity! I recommend trying 45 minutes the first time to test your tolerance. After the time is up, you simply brush your teeth with toothpaste, clean out your trays and dry them, put a ribbon of the desensitizing gel in them, dry your teeth and put them in again for 15 - 20 minutes. When that time is up, you'll spit the remaining residue out and go on with your night refraining from drinking or eating for at least an hour!
My Thoughts
One thing I really loved about Smile Brilliant was that I didn't experience any sensitivity during or after. I've used other products and my teeth felt horrible after, so this was definitely a big deal to me. I also really liked that I could see the shade of my teeth getting whiter after each use. Since the trays are customized to my mouth, it ensures that every angle of every tooth (regardless of whether your teeth are straight or not) receives even and consistent coverage unlike other whitening products.
My Results
Since I'm a blogger and I'm always posting selfies/photos of myself on the internet, I'm always overanalyzing every little thing about myself. I was so surprised at how quickly I started seeing results. After the first week, I was already feeling so much more confident with my smile!
